In the back of the Lotsawa Lhakhang is a large niche with the clay sculptures of the five esoteric Buddhas. These are the main deities of the Vajradhātu mandala, the secondary deities of which have been painted around them, only some of them preserved in the area between the left corner and the central Vairocana. The niche further documents a number of restorations through the more recent paintings in a variety of styles.
